TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Your moral authority is dependent on your heart alignment with Christ!

Good morning men!  Welcome to day 11!  Thanks for joining me today.  Let’s pray together:  Lord, let Your spirit saturate me today so I will dispense You all day!  Amen!

I’m always fascinated by David’s heart surgery and recovery after his sins with Bathsheba and her husband.  (Psalm 51)

The passivity of David’s heart is the very thing that undid his home.  In brief, David’s oldest son, Amnon rapes his sister Tamar.  David learns of this and does nothing.  Absalom, Tamar’s brother and also a son of David, gets his brother Amnon drunk and kills him.  David does nothing.  Joab, David’s nephew, who was the accomplice in the killing of Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, killed Absalom because Absalom was planning a coup for the throne.  Again, David did nothing.  This passivity is David’s main problem and it’s the problem of every man!  Passivity is the sure way to keep the ‘tip of your spear’ dull.

Moral authority comes from listening to the Spirit, walking in obedience to the Spirit, and taking authority over the desires of your flesh.  (Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16)

You do this over time. You have moral authority whenever you open your mouth.  You can’t fake moral authority.  You feel it when it is there.  The moral impact of your words touch people morally when your words align well with your daily living.

Hypocrisy evaporates your moral authority. It’s always easier to stay silent. And any shame we have doubles down on us to keep us silent!

Be the initiator, especially when it is hard.  Following the Spirit breaks our passivity!

My prayer for today: Lord, forgive me of my silence and my hypocrisy.  Lord, I come to You, asking You, to give me a ‘new heart.’  Let my ‘outer man’ die so I can ‘put on the new man, created in the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness!’  Ephesian 4:24. Amen!
