TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

The pain of confession or the pain of chaos!

Good morning sir!

I’m grateful that you’re reading this.  My prayer every day before I write is this: “Lord, speak to these incredible men so that they will not miss out on anything that You have prepared for them, their families, and their communities!  Amen!

Welcome to day 18!  Join me in prayer:  “'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening!  Amen!” 1 Samuel 3:1

To gain the upper hand in spiritual warfare, you have be a truth teller.  And truth telling comes with risk.  Particularly for those closest to you.  So there is always potential pain with confession.  But there is also the pain of chaos, shame and guilt, that comes along with hiding our sin.  “But if you confess your sins and forsake them, you will be kissed by mercy!”  Proverbs 28:13 TPT

A friend of mine shared that a couple once came to him for counseling. They were there because the husband had confessed to having an affair.  My friend cautiously told the wife, this may just be the tip of the iceberg.  Upon leaving, the husband said to his wife, ‘I'm not going back, he's not the counselor for us.’  They did return the following week and the number of admitted affairs had grown to five.  He embraced deeper and deeper, the way of confession and over time, through humility, honesty, and repentance, restored his relationship with his wife.’  The pain of confession, brought great gain!

During our retreat, Pastor Paul reminded us that “confession is simply telling the truth.  That's what confession is.  It's just telling the truth. It's being honest. About what you really believe about God, yourself and others.  It's the greatest act. It is a sacrament. God loves honest confession. Confession is the beginning of genuine transformation!”
