Becoming the Man God's Future Requires

Good morning, sir! Welcome to day twelve! I hope you're enjoying these moments we share each morning to focus our hearts and minds on the Holy Spirit.

Join me in prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your Holy Spirit! You are my Comforter! You dwell with me and in me, bringing to remembrance all that Jesus taught (John 14:16–17, 26). Amen!

Pastor Paul repeatedly emphasized this verse: "Humble yourselves before the Lord.” (James 4:10).

Humility begins in the heart. Understanding the difference between a son and a hireling has helped me recognize something profound: My behavior flows from my identity!

Paul declares, "You are no longer a slave, but a son" (Gal. 4:7).

Not long ago, my oldest daughter, Honnah, married Caleb. I remember having one brief conversation with him about his new identity as my son-in-law. But he quickly embraced that identity! He felt free to walk into our house, open the refrigerator, and help himself to whatever he wanted! And he does!

Why? Because he knows he belongs! His natural behavior reflects his new identity as part of our family. And I love it! This is the freedom our heavenly Father wants us to experience as His sons!

Consider these contrasts:

• You get work from hirelings; you get sacrifice from sons.

• Hirelings see sacrifice as a burden; sons see it as an honor.

• Hirelings ask, "Must I?" Sons ask, "What needs doing?"

• Hirelings ask, "What will I get?" Sons ask, "What can I give?"

• Hirelings protect themselves; sons protect others.

Even sons can behave like hirelings when pride replaces love!

Jesus demonstrated true sonship, humbling Himself and becoming obedient even to death on a cross (Phil. 2:5–8).

Humility isn't how I become a son. It's how I learn to live like the son I already am! Caleb didn't open my refrigerator to earn a place in my family. He opened it because he already had one!

Lord Jesus, teach me to live from my identity as Your son, serving others with Your humility and love. That's my true freedom! Amen!
