Meet Your Elder Candidate

Bill Whitsitt has been attending and growing his connection to Crossroads Christian Fellowship and its people for nearly 25 years. 

Married 46 years to Kristy, Bill began his Crossroads journey when the couple visited Bigfork and eventually bought a lot in Eagle Bend West in 2002. Early-on, they found a church that met in the Bigfork Junior High School gymnasium (Crossroads). It felt like home from the beginning, with doctrine and feel similar their church in McLean, Virginia. It became their church-away-from-home as they periodically visited Bigfork. They saw construction of their retirement home in 2023. After several careers for both Bill and Kristy in different places across the country, and with a blended family of four kids that loved to visit Big Sky Country, they were back home in Montana. And their faith flourished at Crossroads.

Raised in a military family home, Bill remembers his early Christian upbringing with home bible stories and Methodist, then base Protestant chapel, Sunday Schools, Vacation Bible Schools and services. His father’s last station was Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls where Bill went to high school. He stayed for a degree from the Catholic College of Great Falls and a first career, in broadcasting. Years later he would meet and marry Kristy, who was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Central Montana. She had a similar faith upbringing. Her faith growth continued and does today.

Bill’s faith journey also continues. As he seeks to follow Jesus in his life and encourage others along the way, he is grateful for Christ’s promise of salvation. But Bill knows he will always be a work in progress, comforted by what the Holy Spirit does in him. 

At Crossroads Bill has volunteered in a number of areas, currently delighting in being a member of the Greeting and Guest Services teams. He is helping the new building team by leading Crossroads community efforts with the Montana Department of Transportation, Flathead County Commission and others toward better traffic flow and safety on adjacent highways and at nearby intersections. Kristy coordinates the Women’s Ministry’s small group member placements.

A long-time participant in classes of the national Community Bible Study and Bible Study Fellowship programs, Bill was a founding member of the Bigfork Community Bible Study class that Kristy was instrumental in forming and that Crossroads has hosted since its inception. He also was an early Bigfork CBS teaching director. Over the years he has worked on Crossroads committees to make governance document recommendations and to search for our pastor. He smiles when he thinks of how God can grow us in faith by such experiences. He counts as a perfect example that Paul and Carol Bernard were led to Bigfork, and to Crossroads, at the same time the pastoral search committee was continuing its search for the right pastor candidate.
