The Fundamentals of Our Faith

This class led by Mark Odell, PhD is designed for someone who has an understanding of faith and what it means to be a Christian, but is hoping to deepen their knowledge of some of the key “fundamentals” of the Christian faith. Below, you will find a list of the different modules we will offer through out the year, so you can plan and prepare for which you would like to attend!

    The History of Christianity (4 week module) 

    This module will be an overview of our own 21st century American context that forms the “water in which we swim” while encountering Christianity, which was formed in a much different context yet remains universal. We will also delve into our historical anchor, the Bible.

  • MODULE 1

    The History of Christianity (4 week module)

  • MODULE 2

    God--The Father, Jesus/The Son of God (4 week module) 

    This module will examine God in terms of human approaches to theism, and then specifically address the God of the Bible, who we understand as the Trinity. We will look closely at the first two persons of the Trinity: God the Father, and Jesus, God the Son.

    March 3, 10, 17, 24 6:00-7:30pm in Rooms 1 and 2

  • MODULE 3

    Holy Spirit, Sin, and Supernatural Beings and Places (4 week module)

    This module will continue the examination of God, specifically in the third person of the Trinity: Holy Spirit. We will then address Christianity’s preeminent problems of Sin and Evil, and then we will discuss supernatural beings–Satan, angels and demons–and places–Heaven and Hell.

  • MODULE 4

    The Gospel, the Church, and the End (4 week module) 

    This module will discuss the Gospel and Salvation as it has been articulated in the Bible and understood through the centuries, and how it should inform and direct the lives of believers. Then we will examine the Church, who it is, its purpose, and how it is to operate within itself and in the world, and then we will discuss the theology of the Eschaton, the End.
