Individual/Small Group Study

  1. Read the articles attached. Highlight the questions you have. Write one statement from each article that resonated with you.

  2. In verse 14, Jesus refers to Himself as “the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.” What does this title reveal about Christ’s authority and reliability, especially in contrast to the spiritual condition of Laodicea?

  3. Jesus says in verses 15–16, “you are neither cold nor hot... I will spit you out of my mouth.” What does this metaphor say about spiritual complacency, and why is it so offensive to Christ? Think about the historical context of Laodicea’s lukewarm water supply and what it illustrates spiritually.

  4. In verse 17, the Laodiceans believe they are rich and in need of nothing, but Jesus exposes their true poverty. What warning does this give to believers today about self-sufficiency and spiritual blindness?

  5. Compare verse 18 with Matthew 6:19–21. How does Jesus’ counsel to “buy from me gold refined by fire” reveal what truly satisfies and lasts? What are the “riches” that only Christ can offer?

  6. Verse 20 presents a well-known image: Jesus standing at the door and knocking. How does this picture reflect both invitation and urgency? What does it say about the relationship Jesus desires with His people. Why is it significant that this is said to a church?

  7. Pray that God would reveal Himself to you through our study of Revelation.
