Read the articles attached. Highlight the questions you have. Write one statement from each article that resonated with you.
Review the article, “The Cultural Landscape under Domitian” here. Reflect on the image of Jesus “among the lampstands (churches).” How does this picture of Jesus bring hope to the seven original Christian churches being addressed?
Read Matthew 18:20 and Deuteronomy 31:6. What does it mean that Jesus is present with us today?
Re-read and meditate on the image of Jesus presented in Revelation 1:13-16. What is the most surprising part of this description to you? Why?
Read verse 17 again and picture this moment between Jesus and John. What could God be speaking to you through that moment, some 2000 years later?
In Revelation 1:13-16, John describes the glorified Christ with imagery like, “a sharp double edged sword coming from his mouth,” and “his face shining like the sun.” Compare to Isaiah 11:4 and Hebrews 4:12. What does this reveal about His authority?
